Stacey,
If all the contacts are in a separate row, then no because you can’t concatenate contacts.HOWEVER, if you have a master sheet with a column that has the company name and then a 2nd MULTI contact column you can assign up to 20 contacts in 1 multi contact cell.
You can then pull in the multi contact cell into your multi contact column in your project sheet.
Does that make sense? If not, I can work up a quick example. I’ve done this sort of thing in implementations and it works fine.
Connecting the metrics widgets on the dashboard to the metrics sheet is the proper way to do it. No need to complicate it further.
If the data didn’t show up properly then it could be a delay in Smartsheet updating the dashboard, or something is not setup properly in the metrics sheet.
To create a report with a hyperlink from the metrics sheet, this is very scaleable as long as the setup remains the same as the template when you copy it.
If this is a Control Center build, I wouldn’t use summary fields because summary fields aren’t able to be updated with global updates. And actually, Control Center can pretty easily update the metadata sheet fields with new meta data if everything is configured correctly.
As far as getting the hyperlink on the dashboard. The easiest way is to create a report with the metadata as the sources, sort it to the row with the link on it. That will allow the link to be clickable when the report is embedded on the dashboard.
Does that work?
Ahh, the Smartsheet sharing conundrum… WorkApps would be my go to but as you see, depending on what they need to do there are limitations.
I think you are on Smartsheet Enterprise? If so… you should have access to the new “Collections” feature which is in the context of a Workspace.
that will work as long as the consultants and contractors don’t need anything higher than editor permissions. Collections doesn’t let you assign admin privileges, only viewer, commentor, or editor.
If your temporary users need admin access to any assets, then that still needs to be on an asset by asset basis. There is not easy way to manage this 🙁
Louise,
Just put the reference to the outlook_attachments_Array like this, it is the box in purple in your screenshot. You can just delete all the brackets and you should be fine.that outlook attachments array is already be formatted with the proper name and content bytes.
See screenshot of what the Attachments box should look like.

The cross sheet reference is on the whole column in the comparison sheet, in the source sheet it’s looking at the value on a row and seeing if it exists in the comparison sheet.
That’s how you want to do it, your not comparing 2 columns to each other, but looking if the value exists in the comparison sheet column.
Wow, ya’ll were on this!
Tamarin,
In Peggy’s example, the cross sheet references like {Skillable: Lab Profiles ID} would be on the “bad” sheet.Technically we could simplify the formula and just use Match() if you don’t need to pull data back from the comparison sheet.
If there is a match the value will be a number (1 or greater)
Else it will be a #NO MATCH like the screenshots

You must be logged in to view attached files. That would be the way to do it using the built in automations. Then you’d have to clean up the deleted rows sheet, should you need to actually delete the data.
Similarly, if you actually wanted to delete the data in one shot, you could use Bridge or Power Automate to delete the rows that have the box check. That may be dangerous if just a general user can check the box though!!!!
Using your method above, you’d have a way to ensure the deletion was intended and restore if necessary..
Have done this trick to allow users to replicate a row from a report
1. Check a box to duplicate the row
2. Automation copies the row to a holding sheet
3. Automation on the holding sheet moves the row back to the original sheetThen you end up with an exact copy. This is useful for some use cases, but is rather a bit of a hack. I learned this from another Smarthseet developer.
Tamarin,
Ahh, welcome to the fickle client process 🙂 . And don’t worry, you’re not alone in these types of struggles. It’s a common scenario that happens where a client is changing their process on you 😉There are different ways to handle this, will take some thinking over before giving a proper response.
As far as the relation to Q2 and Q1, the answer would be yes if the solution for Q1 is designed in a way that makes this easy.
Some clarifying quetions.
1. Is the current task list a project plan with start/end dates and duration, or is it setup as a list of tasks with user assignment and result
2. Would it make sense to add multiple rows in a parent/child hierarchy? This would be more manual, so that may not be what the client desires.
3. Do you need to aggregate the results from all users performing a specific test?If no to #2, then we’d have to consider other ways to take a specific task, then create another row to allow assignment.
Most likely. There have been a lot of those lately. Been seeing some odd behavior.
Also, just yesterday a client lost access to a key sheet for about 30 mintues.
Entered a Smarsheet ticket, but they didn’t respond quick enough anyway and when they did it was the generic “it could be your browser” kind of response and log out/login to Smartsheet.
I just tried a copy folder in my account and it worked as expected.
By the way, this was the update I was referring to,

Are you sure the option to “link to new sheets” was checked?

You must be logged in to view attached files.Hmm. I saw recently they made an update that was supposed to be an improvement, I wonder if there was in unintended consequence?
I’m assuming that the meta data and dashboard are in the same folder as the sheet you want linked to it?
Unfortunately you can’t trigger an automation from a sheet summary…
So, there are some options that I can think of:
1. Add a summary row to summarize this and trigger the automation from that row.
2. If you have too many column formulas and can’t add a row, add columns in the sheet to summarize this on a single row that won’t be deleted
3. Use a metrics sheet to summarize this. -
